Design Thinking & Doing
Why Design Thinking & Doing
I have always been very interested in human behaviour, research, observation and the "little things" people normally don't pay attention to. I am a curious person, who is open to learn new things.

In my second year at CMD I have followed both Project Interaction (Behavioural Patterns and Evidence Based Design) and Project Concept/Design Across Borders (Design Through Empathy and Culture Mapping). And a little bit of the start of Behavioural Design.

These courses have thought me a lot about understanding your target group better by observing them, thinking outside the box and to design user-centred.
I feel like the Minor Designing, Thinking and Doing fitted perfectly with my previous projects and the things I want to learn to help me to become a better designer.

Eventually I want to become an Interaction Designer. As a interaction Designer it is important to understand how your target group thinks, to understand how their mental model works so you can design as human centred as possible. Thanks to project Interaction, Project Concept and Project Behavioural Design I have a better view of what I want to do after I graduate.
I hope that at the end of this Minor I will be more skilled in design thinking, and learn a lot about the methods and tools to solve problems. I hope I will become better at translating my research into something understandable for other people.

Competencies
#2
The student can carry out design research to discover insights that allow them to analyse and reframe problems, define design challanges, and use these to develop and argue for solutions.
Competencies
#3
The student is able to make their research, findings, ideas , designs and conclusions tangible through drawings, sketches, process diagrams, prototypes and other visualizations.
Competencies

What i've learned
" I hope that at the end of this Minor I will be more skilled in design thinking, and learn a lot about the methods and tools to solve problems. I hope I will become better at translating my research into something understandable for other people. "
-
More aware of The Design Thining Process.
-
I’ve learned and used new methods like the co-creation. Was something I never did.
-
There are better ways to start conversations instead of “Hey do you have 1 minute for a research?”
-
Working with different kind of people.
-
I’ve learned to use my Sketching-skills in different ways than just sketching the solutions or ideas.

What are my plans?
After this minor my plan is to finish Project Behavioural Design. I already finished Design Ethics with an 8, so i am confident I will have no problems doing this project. After Project Behavioural Design I would like to do my internship at SUE Amsterdam. They are an designagency in Amsterdam who focus on People behaviour.
Before starting this Project I will go to Summerschool at the Institute of Technology in Ireland. I will be doing the project Sustainable Storytelling & Design to gain more experience and to develop more skills.
“Despite scientific research alerting us to the dangers of unsustainable lifestyles many people remain unmotivated to alter their behaviour. Facts and figures alone fail to connect with us emotionally. The role of the storyteller is to translate information into something that humans react to on an emotional level. To develop narratives that engage us deeply to help us better understand our world. Stories often explore morals, themes and consequences that teach us about our behaviour. Our task in this project is to find the stories buried in the noise of information about sustainability. How do we recognise and tell those stories in a way that connects with people on an emotional level and provoke behavioural change.”
